Whether enamel cookware can be put into a microwave or oven depends primarily on the base material of the cookware and the materials of its accessories. The specific situations are explained as follows:
- Can it be put into the oven?
Most cast iron enamel cookware can be put into the oven, but it must meet two conditions:
- Compatibility of the base material and the enamel layer
- Compatibility of the handle/pot ear material
- Can it be put into the microwave?
Most enamel cookware is not recommended to be put into the microwave for two reasons:
- The base material is cast iron/metal, which will generate electric sparks
- Few special cases are not practical
- Before putting it into the oven, remove the silicone sealing ring of the pot lid (if any) to avoid high-temperature aging;
- When taking enamel cookware out of the oven, be sure to wear heat-insulating gloves. The pot body will continue to dissipate heat at high temperatures, so be careful to prevent scalding;
- Neither in the oven nor the microwave should you put enamel tableware with gold or silver rim decorations, as metal decorations can also cause safety issues.
